New Uniquely Islay Series for Germany announced – An Geamhradh 2022
The German Kilchoman importer Hanseatische Weinhandelsgesellschaft Bremen announced now with Uniquely Islay – An Geamhradh 2022, the after Uniquely Islay – An t-Earrach 2020, Uniquely Islay – An Geamhradh 2020, Uniquely Islay – An Samhradh 2021 and Uniquely Islay – An t-Earrach 2022 meanwhile already fifth edition of the series.
As the name already suggests, it appears a few weeks late, which is no exception in post-Brexit times. The quota of single cask releases by Kilchoman introduced last year – there are simply not enough casks above a certain age at the moment – is now also evident in the Uniquely Islay series: this time there are “only” five bottlings.
It is again a colourful mixture of different cask types, ages and peating levels, whereby this time the focus is on what Kilchoman founder Anthony Wills calls “experimental casks”, i.e. no bourbon or oloroso sherry cask maturations are represented. Quote Anthony Wills: “So there are some really interesting cask types here which is something that we now specialize in a bit. We call them our Experimental Casks that we fill; all from different types of wine and spirits”.
.
A Calvados Double Cask Finish, another Tequila Finish and a 100% Islay Pedro Ximénez Sherry Full Maturation aged over 7 years are likely to attract the most interest. We will of course taste all the bottlings again and present our impressions shortly.
