Foundations Collection by LMDW with three new Kilchoman Releases

Once a year, the French spirits retailer and Kilchoman importer La Maison Du Whisky publishes a catalogue of exclusive LMDW bottlings of whisky, rum and other spirits, which is always outstanding in terms of scope and content. This year, ‘2025 Créations’ contains almost 170 spirits bottled exclusively for LMDW, from the categories of Scotch and world whisky, rum, cognac, armagnac, calvados… and even sake.

Named Foundations, the new collection highlights the architectural heritage of the spirits world and also offers an exploration of around thirty whisky and rum distilleries from around the globe.

Thierry Bénitah, CEO of La Maison du Whisky, writes in the editorial:

Our new Foundations collection is inspired by Rothes Glen Castle, in the heart of Speyside. When we visited this 19th century manor house, we discovered that its architect was none other than Charles Doig. A noteworthy contributor to the history of whisky, Doig is known for having planned and perfected the layouts of some fifty distilleries, and as the inventor of their famous pagoda-shaped roofs. Designed to improve the malting process, this invention has had a long-lasting influence on the production of whisky, far beyond the mere borders of Scotland. From Arran to Taiwan to Japan — where Yoichi has just celebrated its 90th anniversary — the Doig pagoda is a veritable architectural icon. The two Artist series within these pages were created as an homage to Doig: bearing labels illustrated by painters Victor Ekpuk and Logovarda, these series feature distilleries on which the architect and inventor left his mark, beginning in 1880. In this new collection, made up of 170 exclusive editions, these distilleries grant us a glimpse into not only their latest creations, but into their very buildings, cellars, and stills. Several have given us access to their archives and plans, some of which date back to the 19th century. This delve into the heritage of spirits has special resonance in 2024, as we prepare to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Whisky Live Paris — an event which takes place in the Grande Halle de la Villette, a superb example of 19th century industrial architecture.

Among the numerous spirits bottled exclusively for LMDW are three new Kilchoman single cask bottlings. In addition to an 11-year-old bourbon cask maturation under the name ‘Legacy’, there is a 9-year-old 100% Islay bourbon cask bottling under the name ‘Autonomy’ and a 6-year-old maturation in an STR cask (shaved, toasted & re-charred ex-red wine cask) called ‘Exploration’.

Here is an overview of the three bottlings:
