Kilchoman Comraich 100% Islay Casks released

The latest Comraich release has been available in the first Comraich bars (an overview can be found here) for a few days now.

Kilchoman had been thinking about the concept of Comraich bars in general and the special releases available only there, and has now made some changes.

While the earlier Comraich releases, of which six were released on average every year, were always small batches from 3 to 4 casks that were only available for a short time, the focus is now on a release that is continuously available in the Comraich bars for a longer period of time.

This seventh Comraich release is called 100% Islay Casks – 8 years old, and the consecutive numbering has ended. Due to the new character of the release as a continuous bottling, there is no longer any information on the casks, distillation or bottling dates on the bottle.

As the name suggests, this is an 8-year-old 100% Islay Single Farm Single Malt, i.e. one of the slightly less peated whiskies, produced entirely at Kilchoman ‘from barley to bottle’, which Kilchoman’s self-image as Islay’s farm distillery is based on. Bourbon Barrels from 2016 were bottled for the first time on 16 August 2024 and diluted to a drinking strength of 48%.

Based on our initial tasting impressions, we can only recommend every Kilchoman fan to visit their nearest Comraich bar again. There, we would recommend comparing the bottling with the latest 100% Islay Limited Release, which is similarly aged but contains a small proportion of 10% whisky matured in Oloroso sherry casks.
