Delivery of Quarter Cask has arrived at Kilchoman Distillery
As Kilchoman reported yesterday, a delivery of 132 quarter casks has arrived at the distillery. These casks with a volume of about 100 litres were made in a cooperage from refill bourbon barrels.
Some distilleries like to use quarter casks for finishing, as the surface of the cask, which is significantly larger in relation to the volume, leads to more intensive wood contact of the maturing distillate.
However, Kilchoman wants to fill the casks with New Make, i.e. they will use them for full maturation and not for finishing. We are curious about the result!
