Kilchoman 13 yo Limited Release announced

The Kilchoman distillery, founded at the Fèis Ìle 2005, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. In the anniversary year, Kilchoman is planning, among other things, the release of a few anniversary bottlings with age statements. For example, a 13-year-old and an 18-year-old whisky, and this year’s Loch Gorm will also be released for the first time with an explicit age statement (10 years).

The first of the anniversary bottlings to be announced is a 13-year-old limited release, which is due to be released in a few days.

It is a vatting of 70% bourbon barrels / 20% bourbon quarter casks and 10% calvados casks. According to Kilchoman, this exciting blend has resulted in a wonderfully balanced whisky with layers of orchard fruits, vanilla and maritime peat smoke.

As with Kilchoman’s previous releases of this type of cask, the Quarter Casks with a volume of approx. 100 litres were made for Kilchoman by a cooperage from bourbon cask staves. Kilchoman refers to these casks here as Octave Casks and this is also a reminder of earlier releases where Kilchoman had used the terms Octave Cask and Quarter Cask very inconsistently. As is well known, an Octave Cask has a capacity of 50-60 litres, whereas a 100-litre cask is much more likely to be called a Quarter Cask (usually with a capacity of approx. 125 litres).
