Kilchoman Fèis Ìle 2024 Release

Pictures by Martin Brendel

For the Fèis Ìle special bottling of 2024, Kilchoman founder and master blender Anthony Wills opted for one of the very rare “unpeated” Kilchoman whiskies. This means that the 100% Islay barley malt was dried in the distillery’s kiln using only hot air and not peat smoke.

Kilchoman has only produced unpeated Kilchoman whisky very sporadically in the past. Once a larger quantity in the late summer of 2012 when the kiln was defective, otherwise occasionally as a taste experiment, as they also experimented with other types of yeast and different fermentation times. Bottlings of these unpeated whiskies are therefore very rare. For the Fèis Ìle release, Anthony Wills selected two almost 13-year-old 1st fill bourbon barrels from 2011 and married them together.

The 482 bottles, limited to one bottle per person, were sold to visitors for £110 on Kilchoman Open Day, May 30, 2024, and sold out within a few hours.
