The Kilchoman Distillery has been a sponsor of the Northeast Asia Ice Racing Carnival several times. At a meeting between Peter Wills and the race organisers in the Chinese city of Yanji in 2023, it was decided to release a limited edition of Kilchoman to mark the seventh edition of the tour, which would start in Yanji on 25 December 2023.

At the end of November 2023, a 8-year-old Pedro Ximénez Hogshead was bottled at Kilchoman and the bottles were sent by ship to China, where they were to arrive on New Year’s Day 2024. However, at the time, the Red Sea crossing was proving extremely dangerous due to attacks by the Houthis and Somali pirates, so the ship spent several weeks sailing back and forth between different ports before attempting the crossing. It was not until March 2024 that the bottles arrived in China, too late for the 7th Ice Racing Tour. In May 2024, the bottle labels were therefore redesigned and printed to present the bottling at the 8th edition of the tour. In October 2024, Peter Wills and Kilchoman founder Anthony Wills also came to Yanji for the Kilchoman Batch Strength Asia Tour 2024 and agreed with the organisers to build a Kilchoman pavilion, the Kilchoman House at the Ice and Snow Camping Market, where people can sit by the fireplace in the transparent tent, defy the cold and taste Kilchoman whiskies. The Kilchoman House proved to be a real crowd-puller during the numerous events in December 2024 and January 2025, attracting numerous drivers, visitors and tourists.

But back to the whisky. 300 of the 318 bottles of the release were sold jointly by the Single Malt Club China and Rootspace, with the remaining 18 bottles being collected in the SMCC Whisky Museum and officially priced at 2,025 yuan.
