As already for the 10th Whisky Live!, an exclusive Kilchoman single cask was bottled for the eleventh edition of the well-known Japanese whisky fair. After a 3-year-old bottling from the ex-bourbon barrel, an Oloroso Sherry cask release was presented this time.
The Oloroso Sherry Butt 316/2006 was a so-called “split cask”. This means that only part of the contents was used for this bottling, the other part was bottled on the same day for the Danish market. Especially in the early days of Kilchoman, when the individual markets did not yet require such a large number of bottles, it was a common practice to divide the contents of the large 500 litre sherry butts between two or three bottlings.
This bottling also introduced new text on the back of the box. Finally signed by Distillery Manager John MacLellan, who has been with the company since March 2010, and, most importantly, featuring a flavour description befitting a sherry butt. The Oloroso Sherry Butt 322/2006, bottled in August 2010, still used the standard text for the numerous 3-year-old single cask bourbon bottlings with a bourbon cask flavour description. Incidentally, the change of stickers/labels took place in the middle of this bottling. The bottles for Denmark still have the old text on the back of the box and on the back label of the bottle.
