When Kilchoman began to open up foreign markets step by step with its first bottlings from the end of 2009, the national importers Alba Import in Germany, FC Whisky in Denmark, ImpEx Beverages in the USA, La Maison du Whisky in France, Sun Favorite Ltd in Taiwan, Whisk-e Ltd in Japan and Whisky Import Nederland were among the most active partner companies that built up the Kilchoman brand in the respective countries and released the first Kilchoman single cask bottlings.

Whisky Import Nederland (WIN) released a full 12 Kilchoman single cask releases for the Netherlands between 2010 and 2014, before Bresser & Timmer became the Dutch Kilchoman importer in 2015.

The bottling mentioned here was the fifth Kilchoman Single Cask Release by Whisky Import Nederland. The Oloroso Sherry Butt 317/2006 was a so-called “split cask”. This means that only part of the contents was used for this bottling, the other part was bottled a month later for the Dramfest 2011/12 in New Zealand. Especially in the early Kilchoman days, where the individual markets did not yet require such high bottle numbers, it was a common practice to split the contents of the large 500 litre sherry butts between two or three bottlings.
