New in Germany: Kilchoman 11 yo Marsala Finish Single Cask 48/2023 for Jens Heiler
Just before Christmas, four new Kilchoman single cask bottlings were released in Germany. In addition to the 100% Islay unpeated Sherry Butt from the Hanseatische Weinhandelsgesellschaft Bremen and the New Oak Finish Single Cask from Kilchomania.com, which we have both already reported on, there is also an 11 yo Marsala Finish Single Cask for Jens Heiler and a 9 yo 100% Islay Madeira Single Cask Finish for the Brühler Whiskyhaus.
Jens Heiler, a spirits sales representative, holds numerous tastings and seminars every year with his Whisky Mobil. For his first own Kilchoman bottling, he decided on a Marsala finish. The whisky was first matured for over 8 years in an ex-Bourbon barrel and then finished for over 3 years in a Marsala wine cask.
This makes the whisky not only one of the oldest Kilchoman Marsala finishings on the market, but also by far the one with the longest finishing period. Since the previous Kilchoman Marsala finishings had already proven to be an extremely successful combination of the rather light-bodied Kilchoman distillate and the influence of Marsala wine casks, we can expect a very tasty whisky here. We will report in detail on our taste impressions shortly!
