New Kilchomania Bottling released: New Oak Finish Single Cask 237/2018

We are delighted to announce the release of our latest Kilchomania bottling: a STR Cask Matured / New Oak Finish!

As proven Kilchoman specialists, we always aim to introduce our readers and members to very exceptional Kilchoman whiskies with our bottlings.

We set the bar very high with our last issue. This bottling of cask no. 05/2006 is considered by Kilchoman fans to be one of the best, if not the best, single cask bottling of Kilchoman.

Our new bottling is the result of a maturation experiment by Anthony Wills with New Oak casks (‘Virgin Oak’ is no longer allowed to be called the whole thing…). Always aware of the risk that the woody and resinous flavours of a new cask could quickly dominate the light and delicate Kilchoman whisky, Anthony Wills nevertheless decided not to go the usual route, i.e. to use ex-Bourbon casks in combination with New Oak casks made of American white oak, but instead chose fresh STR casks (shaved, toasted and re-charred ex-red wine casks) for maturation and new casks made of European oak from the Carpathians for the finish.

Our Whisky was first matured in a fresh STR cask for more than five years before being finished in a Carpathian New Oak cask for more than 18 month. The result is a Kilchoman whisky unlike any we have tasted before: the spiciest Kilchoman ever.
