New on the German market: 9 yo 100% Islay Madeira Single Cask Finish 765/2015 for Brühler Whiskyhaus

As already mentioned, four new Kilchoman single cask bottlings were released in Germany shortly before Christmas. In addition to the 100% Islay unpeated Sherry Butt from the Hanseatische Weinhandelsgesellschaft Bremen, the New Oak Finish Single Cask from Kilchomania.com, and an 11 yo Marsala Finish Single Cask for Jens Heiler, which we have already reported on, there is also a 9 yo 100% Islay Madeira Single Cask Finish for the Brühler Whiskyhaus.

Marco Bonn of Brühler Whiskyhaus is not only known as a very dedicated whisky dealer, he also regularly releases his own bottlings. When the German Kilchoman importer offered him the opportunity to have his own Kilchoman cask bottled, he decided on a nine-year, 100% Islay Madeira cask maturation.

As our overview in the Taste Guide: Madeira cask shows, a number of Madeira cask bottlings, both fully maturations and finishings, have been released over the years. These have included 100% Islay whiskies, although these are comparatively rare. In the past, the 100% Islay Single Farm Single Malt Whiskies, which are produced entirely from barley to bottle at Kilchoman itself and which, as is well known, make up about 30% of Kilchoman’s production, were almost exclusively matured in bourbon or sherry casks. This makes the few 100% Islay releases from other cask types all the more appealing.
