The basis of the whiskies in the 2019 introduced new series of Small Batch Releases for selected markets is always an already finished Machir Bay vatting or Machir Bay Collaborative Vatting , i.e. a whisky with 46% alcohol strength, which was previously matured for 3-5 years predominantly in bourbon barrels and 5-15% in oloroso sherry casks. This vatting is then married with an additional special cask.
In the “Exclusive Selection No. 2”, as in the “Exclusive Selection No. 1” and the “Sweden Small Batch No. 1”, the additional cask is a bit unorthodox, but still consequent concerning the whole series, an Oloroso Sherry Hogshead. This time, however, the proportion of sherry in the vatting is somewhat higher: 80% bourbon and 20% oloroso sherry.
The “Exclusive Selection No. 2” listed here was again bottled especially for the French shop Le comptoir Irlandais and not, as is usually the case, for the national importer LMDW, which only released two small batch releases in 2022.
It must also be mentioned that Le comptoir Irlandais released another “Exclusive Selection No. 2” in 2021, which often leads to confusion among whisky drinkers and collectors. According to Peter Wills, however, this is not a typing error, but the shop wanted it that way, for whatever reason.
