In November 2019 the Belgian Kilchoman importer The Nectar released this Rum Finish Single Cask Bottling of the cask no. 413/2012. The Whisky was first matured in an ex-Bourbon barrel for five and a half years before being finished in a Barbados Rum Cask for 19 month.
In April 2019 The Nectar had already released the sister cask no. 414/2012, with a Barbados Rum finish of 11 months. For the Kilchoman friend, this is an exciting opportunity to compare what the 7 months longer rum cask maturation has achieved.

Tasting notes
Archer:
Nose:
Freshly poured, it initially looks a bit sharp in the nose – let it breathe a little …
Oxygen is good for him, the sharp impression disappears after a few minutes in the glass. Fresh, bright citrus fruits: lemon, grapefruit, pineapple, pleasantly smoked. The smoke is not too subtle, warm and flattering, only a little ashy. Every now and then, if you sink your trunk too deeply into the glass, a little alcohol flashes through. Fresh yeast dough, marzipan, sour drops. 85
Taste:
Very strong onset, dry, clearly greasy-ashy smoke, lemon sponge cake. Dry wood, custard, forest honey, tart herbs, pepper, paprika. Makes a lot of steam in the mouth and mainly ensures that a note of tar, seaweed, smoke, lemon, grapefruit and pineapple spreads on the tongue. Astringent. 86
Finish:
Corresponding to his age – the impatience of the youth – quite brisk finish. Warm and greasy smoke, warm tar, seaweed, machine oil, lemons, pineapple. Dry wood. 86
A very interesting bourbon cask / rum cask mixture, in which the rum finish is only subtly noticeable with the citrus fruits. Otherwise a rather rough guy, especially in the nose. But you can deal with it if you allow it to stand in the glass for a while.
