The bottling listed here was not only the first Kilchoman single cask bottling for the very active Calgary-based wine and spirits shop Kensington Wine Market, but it was also the first Kilchoman single cask bottling for Canada, or more precisely for Alberta.

In most Canadian provinces, the distribution of alcohol is exclusively in the hands of state monopolists (‘Crown corporations’). Alberta is an exception here. This is certainly one of the main reasons why by far the largest number of Canadian Kilchoman single cask bottlings have been released there to date. It took another six years for a Kilchoman single cask bottling to appear in another Candian province with a release for British Columbia in mid-2016. In the meantime, more than half a dozen had been released in Alberta (including five at Kensington Wine Market alone).

But back to the whisky. This one was matured for a little over three years in a fresh ex-bourbon barrel and is thus one of the three-year-old whiskies bottled for various markets worldwide in 2009 and 2010 that established Kilchoman’s reputation as an extremely promising distillery very early on.
